Future Israel: Why Christian Anti-Judaism Must Be Challenged, by Barry Horner is volume 3 in the NEW AMERICAN COMMENTARY STUDIES IN BIBLE AND THEOLOGY. It’s a book about the legacy of Protestant “Replacement Theology” concerning Israel & the future of Israel according to Biblical theology.

This book is one of the most lucid and thorough works on the theme of the Church & Israel. Horner argues that Protestant theology is out of step with what the bible teaches on the subject of Israel’s eschatological future, and that this has resulted in Anti-Judaism, a theological bigotry against the people of Israel.  He divides the subject into two main areas: historical theology & biblical exegesis. He recounts the history of doctrinal error on Israel promoted by Protestant theologians & churches, then offers an evaluation/rebuttal from the biblical text. Some of the exegesis becomes repetitive, but not ad nauseum. It actually helps to train the mind to think consistently on this matter.

Horner’s exegesis shows that Israel indeed has a future in the plan of God. He hits all the main texts in this regard, especially the Book of Roman, 9 to 11. This is where the discussion really lies between Amillennialists/Postmillennialists, and Premillennial Dispensationalists.

This book is a valuable work to add to your library. It’s got the depth needed to plumb the weightier matters of this subject, without getting bogged down in other issues.

Highly recommended.
